How to extend the pool season

In most of continental Croatia, September marks the end of the swimming season in outdoor pools and means preparing them for hibernation until the next season.
But it doesn't have to be like that.

In order to ensure the use of the pool throughout the year, it is necessary to install some form of system or device for heating the pool. There are different heating systems such as heat exchangers, electric heaters, and heat pumps. When choosing the solution that best suits your lifestyle and which is also the most cost-effective, you must take into account a number of criteria and evaluate not only the price of the heating system but also the annual cost of energy consumption.

Heat exchangers

Heat exchangers use natural gas from the boiler, propane, or fuel to heat the pool water. A water circuit is established in which the water from the pool passes through the boiler, is heated, and then returns to the pool. It is a very safe system since the equipment has a safety device that automatically shuts off the gas if the flame goes out.
Using fossil fuels to heat the water in the pool is the most expensive way, which is why this type of heating is recommended only for small pools up to 150m3.

Heat pumps

One of the most cost-effective systems on the market is heat pumps that collect the heat that is naturally present in the air before converting it and returning it to the pool water. Before purchasing, find out which pumps meet the standards in force. Do not forget to compare different heat pumps with the same characteristics in order to choose the one that best suits you. In addition to the heat pump, it is recommended to purchase a thermal blanket with bubbles to maintain the water temperature.

Electric pool heaters

Electric heaters are used to heat and maintain the temperature of the water in the pool using electricity. They have an excellent price-quality ratio, and on average, they heat the pool faster than heat pumps. The relatively small space required for installation, easy installation, and minimal maintenance should also be taken into consideration.

Pool canopies

A pool canopy, due to its greenhouse effect, can be a simple but effective option for heating bathing water. Canopies protect the pool from precipitation, leaves, and other unwanted things that the wind can bring into your pool and thus ensure simpler maintenance. In addition to cleanliness, due to less evaporation of water, canopies also contribute to lower costs of refilling the pool with water.
